Surprise Surprise #4 Walking in Each Other Shoes

Our new Peri-OP Services Director started July 1. He started at a perfect time; two weeks before the 2014 Budget Process. He is a lucky man Ha Ha. I learned from a former CEO we always reserve the right to be smarter today than yesterday. I translated that to mean learn from your mistakes and schedule my Nicagura Mission Trip for July 11-20.

Past mistake -in 2012 when I orienated the new ER Director it took a month to get him access to all the reports he needed.I thought sending screen shoots of the folder where report were located along with make it like Stan Holland. Wrong answer-this time I sent screen shoots of sub folders for reports and scheduled face to face appointment. Hurray! Access granted by July 9. He attended Budget training class July 10 and help me with my Budget when I returned. Hurray!

As we work through his orientation at our weekly meeting (using last year orientation but updated) he is very good at listening and asking my thoughts especially on senative issues. It is rehreshing to learn his point of view. He knows when to push ahead and when to regroup and assuer expectations are in writing ie personel issues. We agreed to start new Narc process and let data drive next steps to improve process better than not starting process and having no data to drive future issues.

By the way since my last Blog we have done 5 more Ebous Bronch so we are at 9 with 10 schedule tomorrow. The improvements have been doing them in the OR, not using the Vendor Rep to be with us, and Pathologist gets specimens tubed to them. We have Path report back in 5 minutes! Hurray it used to take 3-4 days.

Every RC Leader should seize every opportunity to Walk in another leaders shoes. In fact I would suggest it would be worth considering identifying your primarly business partners (my case-ER/ICU/PCU/OR) and explore how leaders can take turns covering for each other's vacations, FMLA, maybe intentional switches for 3 months.
