Week #4 is in the books!

I am so thankful for lessons I learned in the ER last year for example be visible, accessible and ASK questions. Staff enjoy teaching leaders what they do, what works and what we need to fix. I have developed a more delibert routine. In at 0630 to see RT and OR Safety rounds then after Organizational Safety rounds go to PACU to share where we are for inpatient beds. Next stops include OR main desk (Air Traffic controlers you can find where any MDs is there) after this there must be 6 more stops. The OR covers about 50% of the 2nd floor. I was reminded that Colonscopy scopes are longer than I am tall. Yes I have a picture to prove it. I am an honoary plumber helper.

Most important my RT Skills to find coffee and food have served me well. These daily rounds are the greatest investment in relationship building and communication. The Director before me was very attractive and wore high heal shoes ....well I am a downgrade in those areas, Max Klinger (MASH) I am NOT.

The Intergration with Sentara in terms of OR supplies and equipment is beyond words. So far over 200 items tried with 15 in process now. Keep in mind there must be 10 different specialites and MILLIONs of dollars. I am realizing the OR is a GREAT BIG Hardwire store, with very expensive toys....Man and their Toys! We are BLESSED to have a GREAT MD leader Dr Gordon who along with a dedicated purchasing lady Jennifer really keep the "cats herded and moving together"

I do a weekly news letter to all 150+ staff (or at least that is how many we approve for payroll) not that I have seen all of them...because they wear masks! So unfair to the new guy

It was called Peri-OP Ponderings ...I renamed it Peri-OP Wanderings because I got lost at first. The Managers are great ladies who read and revisie it before I email it. We always start with Safety, CS, Recognition, and some operational issue.

RT related note we did our third Enbous Bronch yesterday with help of Pulmonary MDs, Anesthesia, and Pathology. This is GREAT we get results of pathology immediately and can quickly forward with treatment if needed. The images look like Sports Bar High Defination ESPN type pictures.
