The February issue of AARC Times has been posted online, and here's a sampling of what you will find in it this time. The cover story, “Remembering a Full, Vibrant Life,” announces the 2011 AARC Photo Contest winner: Kerry McNiven, MS, RRT, of Simsbury, CT. Kerry sent us a picture of her mother in law, Julia L. McNiven, who had idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and was on oxygen. Kerry had helped Julia by shepherding her through the maze of health care required to treat her condition, serving as her advocate and medical proxy. [more]

Just a quick reminder to everyone that today is the last day to submit proposals for presentation at AARC Congress 2012 in New Orleans, LA.

The AARC Program Committee is charged to create a program that is reflective of all specialty sections and roundtables, with information that is current, and relevant to the practice of respiratory care. Most importantly, they're charged with creating a program that is of interest to you... our member.

We start off the new year with a crackerjack story in our January issue about a patient who would not quit trying until she got a diagnosis for her lung disease. “Despite my recitations of classic symptoms of COPD to my family doctor, I was not tested by spirometry nor was I referred to another physician for spirometry,” said AARC Congress Keynote Speaker Grace Anne Dorney Koppel. Ms. Dorney Koppel has spent the last 10 years working hard to stay well with COPD and furthering the cause of COPD patients in the halls of Congress and in the NHLBI’s “Learn More Breathe Better” Campaign. It's not too late to submit your proposals for AARC Congress 2012 in New Orleans, LA. The deadline to submit proposals has been extended to Jan. 11. There will be no further extensions.

You may submit your proposal online via Easy Street. You can learn more about the submission process via the AARC website at www.aarc.org.
