Back in the saddle again

I have changed back from "out of office" alert on outlook as well as updated my phone greeting so I guess it is official - vacation is over.  :-(  I tried keeping up with the work email as I sat on the beach sipping a rum and diet coke in the Dominican Republic but I quickly ended up in email jail (far better than a D.R. jail, I guess.)

Congrats to those of you that made the trek to Capital Hill on behalf of our profession and out patients. It will be very interesting to see how the health care reform package will roll out.  Hang on to your hats, it may just be a whirlwind.

I just remembered to check back into the AARConnect site today. It is a cool site but "checking in" is one of those behaviors that you have to sort of build up to. Case in point- I use to check Facebook once a week or so on my laptop but have now progressed to accessing Facebook on my "crackberry" frequently during the day. That is like an addiction with a side order of addiction!! I guess my professional loyalty and pride will lead me to being more devout to this site too. Woe is me. Will there be enough time in the day??
The fun thing I discovered today is that my blog post is the "MOST READ"!! Almost like being on the New York Best Seller list. :-) I wonder when the Talk Show invites will start coming?
At any rate, I am looking forward to seeing some of you in Dallas next week for the Board meeting. Wow, that sounded like I am not looking forward to seeing others of you. That's not what I meant. Oh, the wickedness of the text message. ;-)
Go TWINS!

This is the second time for me to the D.R. The beaches are fabulous in Playa Dorada and it is a short but "interesting" cab ride from the puerto plata airport. There are absolutely no rules of the road so I wouldn't recommend renting a car. There are plenty of resort properties to choose from so you can book on any price point. I stayed at Celuisma which is probably mid-point, but has a fantastic location on the beach and great staff. Like most vacation destinations, you can choose from excursions if you want to get off the resort complex. In addition, this resort was a couple blocks away from a modern shopping plaza with restaurants, disco and shops. If you like to haggle with the local vendors, you can walk down the beach a half mile and find the orange or blue market that has all of the souvenier and local artisan stuff. A lot of Canadian and Europeans seem to go to the DR so it is quite the mix. Hope that helps.

We're trying to think of a good vacation spot. Do you recommend the Dominican Republic?
