My ER "Zip Line" Leadership Experience started four months ago. The best way to hide gray hair is to cut it very short. Yesterday was special for three reasons; #1 Two Years ago we moved into our new $280 Million Dollar Hospital #2 One year ago we started a 15 minute organizational safety check in #3 I realized why I drink Coke not Pepsi.

The day start with "Heads Up" from Protection Services that ER patient cut himself with Pepsi can after drinking Pepsi. Rest of the story gets better; We had four Behavioral Health Patients in ER overnight. Two had TDOs and Pepsi man was in four point restraints. Pepsi man did not realized Bath Salts effects are not covered by Pepsi.

Computerized Provider Order Management (CPOM) started on June 12. ER MDs have exceeded expectations by entering greater than 90% of orders. Yes they have done well, and we are proud of them, but the some how now their are less HHN x3 orders. The Real Heroes are the EHealth Build team

EKG Order Entry project-ER Manager & HV staff have done very well. CPOM was a big help because MD has to enter order unless it is Nurse Protocol.

What is a ECO? TDO? BO? Emergency Containment Order, Temporary Detaining Order,  Body Odor (Sorry BO was ER Humor)  Four months I did not know or care what they were. WE got ER Leaders, ER MD, BH, PS and Risk together to clarify what we can and can not do in each situation. Local Magistrate told us if we were are risk of a warrant if we did not follow rules. I wish they had to spend one night shift in the ER.

MedEXpress Urgent Care is quickly moving into areas and "Cherry Picking" paying ER Fast Track patients. This had to develop 20% and 25% reduction of Fast Track Visits -thank goodness for our API Scheduler keeping my ER FTE spreadsheet current. We track Total FTE to Budget, FTE by Job,etc we quickly put 5 FTE on Hold to avoid 2013 FTE Budget over hire of 25% reduction happens. ER Leaders appreciated "Heads up" then w decided it is time to fight back ..so we are developing a counter pre MedExpress attack plan.

Yes, we did receive the 2010, and 2011 Healthgrades Clinical Excellence Awards to go with the 2012 Award. I expect our patients will soon hear about these clinical awards.

By the Way ....Coke not Pepsi is the Real Thing
