Intubation Certification

By Tracey Pimentel posted 03-08-2017 23:01

We are trying to brain storm ideas for neonatal intubation certification. In the last 2-3 years our unit has added NNPs. In a week or 2 we will be getting Residents. With HFNC, BCPAP, Vapotherm, etc helping neonates, MDs not wanting to intubate, NNPs & Residents, how do you maintain your certification? Also, what methods do you use for initial certification? Would appreciate any input!! Thanks!

Tracey,
I am running into the same thing. We are currently making a program with one of the neonatologists and working with anesthesia to get OR time to intubate in a controlled fashion, then move to the NICU, with NP's as our backup. I think the more involved you have your program the smoother transition and more support you will have. If you send me your e-mail I can send you what I have and you can modify it as you see fit. My email is pjohnson5@umm.edu. I hope I can help. I also recommend everyone of your NICU RT's to have PALS, NRP, and maybe STABLES (more for transport), but everyone of them has something to learn from as far as intubating in my opinion.
