NBRC Proposed 2011 Change- Students and New Grads May Affect You!

Hello AARC Friends,
This copied file attached has passed 2 readings with the NBRC and is expected to be effective January 1, 2011. This will affect many students, new grads, and prospective employers. I have not seen any rhetoric concerning the change so I will reserve my opininon on this Blog until I have seen the rationale for this change. Communication is the #1 issue in most work forces, so here is my attempt to help spread the word. I have not seen this until today when I was on the NBRC web site @ www.nbrc.org. This was posted  a few days ago on the NBRC web site.

This provision currently allows individuals enrolled in accredited respiratory care
education programs to apply for and attempt the CRT Examination 30 days prior to
actual graduation. Examination results are held until the individual’s graduation date is
confirmed.

Effective January 1, 2011, all applicants for the CRT Examination must provide proof of
graduation when applying for the examination, either electronically or via the EED or by
submission of an official transcript or certificate of completion/graduation by the
candidate. Candidates will not be eligible to schedule their examination appointment
until proof of graduation is provided by either the accredited education program or
candidate. For questions regarding this policy change, please call us at 913.895.4900
or email us at
nbrc-info@nbrc.org.

I agree with Aaron & Robert. Unfortunately here in Florida it takes the state almost a month to issue the new grads their license. The delay is with the issueing of their actual license. I feel bad for these new grads, they are prepared and ready to work, and they hit another roadblock.

The NBRC mentioned the pending change at the AARC International Congress in San Antonio. As Aaron noted the results of the students that take the test prior to graduation is held until the NBRC is notified of the student's graduation. The reply is by mail so almost no advantage in taking it early. I also believe very few schools and students were using this option. With the Electronic Eligibility Database option (All schools should be using this) allows graduates to schedule the CRT with AMP within a few days.

I don't really see any problems with this. The taking of the CRT prior to graduation does nothing for the graduates. They don't find out their results untill after graduation and they are mailed to them. You are talking about a week or two in many cases. If the school uses the EED systemm the graduates can take the CRT within about a day of graduation and find out their results that day. We recently had a graduate fully registered in 11 days post graduation.
These changes as I see them are minimal.
