The August Issue of AARC Times is ready for viewing online. In this issue, seasoned RC educators and managers give recent graduates some sage advice on what it really takes to get the job these days.

Be sure to check out the “Chronic Disease Manager” column, which gives a first-hand account of an RT’s role as COPD coordinator in a hospital. Author Martine J. Eon has some great information to share with you.

Also, in this issue’s “NBRC Insight” column, regrettably we did not catch a type overprint at the end of the article on page 52 until the issue had been printed, but we did correct it in the digital version of the issue. Here are the corrected paragraphs:

Summary
The intent is to gain a small efficiency with each multiple-choice item or simulation problem that relies on descriptions of mechanical ventilation while preserving candidates’ abilities to comprehend examination content.

The NBRC Committee of Examination Committee Chairmen continues to support the decision from a decade ago since it is often relevant to identify the variable that is controlled during inspiration in addition to the mode. It is possible that some test takers could assume that A/C communicates that volume will be controlled during inspiration without saying so. The committee decided to standardize on routinely describing both the mode and the control variable for each pattern of mechanical ventilation to remove confusion. Describing the mode and control variable will remain as critical content for many multiple-choice items and simulation problems. The NBRC will soon transition to using acronyms to describe these elements.
