Long-Term Care and Respect

I love this topic.  It has been a bone of contention for many therapists and managers.  I speak about this topic on a regular basis with our long-term care therapists.  For many long-term care therapists respect is not an issue.  We have long been respected in this industry.  On occassion when I see this as a problem I can always trace it back to a lack of communication on the therapist's part.  We need to be out there every day be part of the care delivery team.  That comes through communicating with the team and making suggestions and sharing our wealth of knowledge.  I find therapists and departments in general in healthcare have a tendency to work and communicate in silos.  This is an extreme disadvantage to the patients we treat.
