AARC salary survey results?

By Lisa Grenier posted 07-16-2010 09:21

Hello All,

I am looking for the results of the salary survey taken by the AARC in the summer of 2009. I am in the process of salary negotiations with the Army (civil service) and would like to have national averages of RRT's with differing years of experience. I have a survey from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics but it doesn't break it down by credential (CRTT/RRT). Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Lisa,
The GS System has what to me seems to be a very complex system that calculates your rating. In San Antonio the RTs are GS8, while here they are only GS7. They had an opening for an RT here to work at the Peds Clinic mostly to perform PFTs. They wanted an RRT and prefered they were CPFT for GS6. If you check out the OPM.gov website, you might find more information about how it is broken down.

Jerry,
Thanks for the info, I will follow up with her. The job description they have given me for the position is 6 pages long! They must have wrote is specifically for this opening because it doesn't match the others I have found out there. They are offering a supervisory position as a GS 8. That boils down to 37,631 to 48,917. I was shocked. I made 10,000 more last year as a staff therapist. I am an RRT with 19 years experience. So now I am on hte hunt for any information that will support my counter offer. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics mean pay for an RRT is 52,200 (2008) add another 10K for supervisor. I would like to get a few different statistics for them and thought the AARC would be a good place to start. Again, thanks for the information.

Lisa,
The press release announcing the survey listed Sherry Milligan as a POC. I would try contacting her. I am fairly certain she will be able to provide that data or steer you in the correct direction. Good luck in your negotiations. The most recent position standard classification for RT I found on the opm.gov website is dated Nov 1985 so you may have your work cut out for you.
