DLCO between pre and post

By Cory Heath posted 03-12-2011 07:30

We do not perform DLCO after bronchodilator because of the slight possibility of artificially elevating the result in cases where the bronchodilator increases the patient's heart rate. I believe this is the ATS recommended order of testing (although I may have seen this recommendation elsewhere....)

The ATS does not recommended this infact in the Eur Respir J 2005; 26: 153–161 give a table for the possible undertaking in the order of lung function test and it is,
Dynamic studies: spirometry, flow–volume loops, PEF
Static lung volumes
Inhalation of bronchodilator agent (if used)
Diffusing capacity
Repeat dynamic studies (if a bronchodilator was given)
This was taken from the ATS website out of the Eur Respir J 2005; 26: 153–161
