High flow Oq needs

Regarding the need for high flow oxygen in hospice patients. You  might want to check out the Oxymask which can be used on high or low flow oxygen patients and has an FiO2 range up to about 90%. It does not have the non-rebreather bag on it and does allow the patient to talk, eat, etc. I have found it very useful for the patient who will accept a mask. Normally I can lower the flow rate and still get good oxygen to the patient.

Another option is the Salter High Flow Nasal Cannula. It is much better tolerated by most patients and we use it a lot in replacement of the Non Rebreather mask or any mask. The diameter of the tubing allows flow rates from 0-15 L/M and the use of a bubble humidifier. Allows quick and seamless titration of oxygen flow rates.
