Shift Work Interview Question

Managers continue to answer some questions abut job searches. What about shift work. Is it okay to ask?

Yep, say the managers.

Here’s our question:  I have a family with small children and my wife works full time, too. Is it appropriate to ask about options for shifts on the first interview if the person I'm interviewing with doesn't offer that information?

“I appreciate honesty up front.  The same holds true for things such as upcoming vacation plans.  Be honest from the beginning and your requests will be much more likely to be accommodated,” says Paul Nuccio, Director at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Massachusetts.

Colleen Schabacker of Tennessee is a director at Cookeville Regional Medical Center: “Yes, it is appropriate.  Many managers are learning to get creative with their scheduling - for many reasons.  If the place you are interviewing with does not offer different shifts it is good for you to know that up front.”
