Ghana Medical Mission Opportunity

Imagine living in a world where your annual income is <$1000/year…
Imagine living in a world where your lack of income significantly reduces your access to healthcare…
Imagine living in a world where your inability to pay $5.00 for an emergency room visit may result in the death of your child from malaria…
Imagine living in a world where basic needs such as food and clean water are a daily concern…

Now imaging traveling to this world and sharing your skills and expertise to provide much needed health care, health education and humanitarian aid.

Since 2006, respiratory therapy students, practitioners and other health care providers have been traveling to Ghana to offer free health clinics, community health education and humanitarian aid.  We also work side by side with health care professionals in small (75-150 bed) rural hospitals and large (2000 bed) teaching hospitals.

The most recent exciting development in Ghana is the creation of respiratory therapy education.  Since the visit of Dr. Audrey Forson, a pulmonologist from Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) selected by the AARC as an International Fellow, steps have been taken to begin developing a respiratory therapy program that will be housed in the University of Ghana at KBTH.  A portion of our mission to Ghana will be spent at KBTH providing education to doctors, nurses and future RT program faculty about respiratory therapy modalities, mechanical ventilation and neonatal resuscitation.

We have a few spots open in both of our spring missions to Ghana and we are looking for students and/or practitioners who want a life changing experience.  Both trips are 3 ½ weeks long and will include a great deal of time spent interacting with local communities, providing care and education throughout the country.  Additionally, the group travels to key cultural and historical sites.

Mission dates:

May 1-26, 2013
May 30 – June 24, 2013

$2500.00 covers lodging, ground transportation,
some meals, tours and national park admissions
(Participants cover their own airfare)

If you are ready for an amazing experience, please contact Lisa Trujillo at ltrujillo@weber.edu for more information.  Group meeting will begin as early as mid January in order to prepare for the trip.  Participants from states other than Utah will join the meetings via Skype.

Imagine what you can do!!
