Acetylcysteine Treatments

Does anyone have any idea what to replace Acetylcysteine treatments with? I believe my COPD patient is developing a hacking cough from it and wanted to be able to suggest something to our physician.

bronchodilator to be safe

We do 3 or 7% saline on people more so than mucomyst. It seems to be most effective without a bronchodilator, but there's some wheezing afterward. In a COPD patient, you'd likely have to pre-treat with albuterol. Per our pharmacy, the medications must be given separately, but the same nebulizer can be used.
